The Moorings Condominiums Seawall Inspection

Project Type:
Marine Inspections
Project Description:
The aftermath of Hurricane IRMA left widespread damage to seawalls throughout Southwest Florida with many suffering total collapse. In the hours prior to the approach of the hurricane, much of the waters in the canals were pulled out into the river and gulf leaving little to no canal water in front of the seawalls. This event along with the already saturated soils behind the walls placed additional pressures on the seawalls not typically seen when the canal waters are present. Seawall failures of all types have been encountered including seawall panel cracking, seawall toe kick-out, cap failure, tie-rod failure, and deadman pullout.

San Carlos Marina Seawall & Dock Replacement
Blot Engineering, Inc. (BEI) performed the design for approximately 800 linear feet of sea wall and 78 slips of floating docks for the marina. The engineered replacement of the existing rip rap sea wall included new vinyl sheet piling walls with aluminum walers anchored to concrete dead men. The new dock system incorporated floating docks for ease of mooring, including a floating ramp designed for ADA access.
The Moorings Condominiums Seawall Inspection
Blot Engineering, Inc. (BEI) performed structural inspections via land and water for a 970' long seawall damaged in the aftermath of Hurricane IRMA. A comprehensive structural assessment report was provided outlining the condition of the seawall system along with providing recommendation for corrective measures.
